Point of interconnection
Also called: POI
The specific physical location where a facility connects to the transmission or distribution system.
The POI is usually a substation bay, and its voltage class bounds what the connecting facility could draw or deliver. What it will actually be permitted to move is set by the utility's study of the surrounding system. Everything between the site and the POI is the developer's to build and pay for.
Because that build crosses land the developer typically does not own, easement acquisition along the route is a frequent and underestimated source of schedule risk.
