Load
The electrical demand a facility places on the grid, expressed in megawatts.
Load is the demand side of the grid equation, and its size determines everything about how a site is evaluated. A 5 MW load can often be served from existing distribution; a 300 MW load is a transmission project with a queue position and a study process.
Load profile matters alongside size. A constant round-the-clock load is a different proposition for a utility than a variable one, and increasingly the ability to curtail during peaks is what gets a large project to the front of the conversation.
