Interstate pipeline
A natural gas pipeline crossing state lines, federally regulated, and generally the highest-capacity gas infrastructure available to a site.
Interstate lines are regulated by federal authority while intrastate lines fall to the states, and the distinction changes the process for obtaining a new tap or interconnect. Capacity, operator and available service also differ substantially between the two.
For a project contemplating on-site generation, distance to a line with capacity is the first question. The second is whether firm transportation is actually available on it, which is a commercial question the map cannot answer.
