Fuel mix
The composition of generating sources serving a grid region — the number behind any clean-energy claim about a site.
Fuel mix determines the carbon intensity of electricity at a location, which for many corporate buyers is a hard procurement requirement rather than a preference. A site on a coal-heavy grid may be disqualified regardless of its economics.
It is also a forward-looking indicator: regions with heavy retiring thermal capacity are where both interconnection opportunity and grid reliability questions concentrate over the next decade.
