Transmission line map, colored by voltage class
High-voltage routes — the constraint that decides most data-center sites.
Distance to a line is meaningless without its voltage, so every segment on this transmission line map carries its class and its owner. A 500kV corridor two miles away and a 69kV distribution feeder next door are not comparable facts about a site.

Why Transmission Lines matters
Interconnect queues in the West now run for years, and the length of that queue is set largely by where you sit relative to adequate transmission. A parcel three miles from a 500kV corridor and a parcel thirty miles away are not competing for the same tenant, and the difference does not appear in any land listing.
Questions Transmission Lines answers
- How far is the nearest 230kV-or-better line from this parcel?
- Which corridors run transmission-class voltage rather than distribution?
- Is this site plausibly a large-load candidate, or only a small one?
- What does the transmission map look like around a retiring coal plant?
What is in the Transmission Lines data
Coverage: Western US transmission network. Source dataset: Electric power transmission lines.
| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Voltage class | Line voltage in kV, which determines how much load the route can actually serve. |
| Owner | The utility or transmission operator of record. |
| Route geometry | Full line geometry, so distance-to-line is measured rather than estimated from a substation point. |
| Status | In service, under construction or proposed where published. |
How we serve Transmission Lines
Lines are served as vector geometry rather than points so proximity analysis measures the true perpendicular distance to the route. Voltage class drives line weight and color within the power family.

Who uses Transmission Lines
Data Centers & AI Infrastructure
Power, water, fiber and permitting risk for every candidate site — before you send anyone to look at it.
Energy Development
Route corridors, site generation, and clear the environmental picture before the first landowner call.
Industrial & Manufacturing Siting
The same constraint stack as a data center, weighted for process load instead of compute.
