Quaternary fault
A fault with evidence of movement within roughly the last 2.6 million years, treated as potentially active for seismic design.
The quaternary window is the standard screen for potential activity. Faults within it are catalogued with their slip rates and most recent known movement, and those attributes drive how they are treated in engineering.
Distance to a mapped quaternary fault is a screening input for seismic design category, which is a cost multiplier on the entire structure rather than a discrete line item.
