Multiple use
The federal land management doctrine directing agencies to manage public land for a combination of uses including recreation, grazing, minerals, timber and watershed.
Multiple use is the statutory mandate for BLM and Forest Service lands, and it is what makes mining claims, grazing leases and rights-of-way possible on federal ground in the first place.
It is a mandate to balance, not a guarantee of access. Land use plans, designations and overlapping protections all constrain what is actually permitted at a given location.
