The USGS database of mineral occurrences, prospects and producing mines across the United States.
MRDS catalogues what has been found and where, with commodity, deposit type and development status from occurrence through past and current production. It is the standard public starting point for exploration targeting.
It is a historical compilation, so coverage and precision vary by record and era. Treated as a targeting layer rather than a survey, it remains the best free map of where the geology has already proven interesting.
